There are two thing everyone loves: coastal drives and video games. No point trying to debate it - these things make everyone happy. Both inject us with a sense of euphoria and nostalgia. They transport us to other worlds - away from the mundanities of our lives - and leave us revelling in unfiltered happiness and relaxation. It's the sense of paradise that everyone needs to surround themselves with once in a while and TYLER TOUCHÉ has managed to capture that reverie perfectly with his fantastical, summer-ready banger, 'Neverland.'
'Neverland' is a dangerously infectious tale regaling us with the mental trauma we suffer once a relationship ends. "When all is over, and all is done / I'll be the one who is hungry for love," the vocalist sings over a delightful onslaught of stabbing synths and strutting basslines. Tyler Touché has created a wonderland of gold-hued streetlights and cruising speeds. It's some sort of strange combination between a coastal drive and Rainbow Road.
In a parallel universe, Mulholland Dr. is actually a part of Super Mario World and Tyler Touché is truly conquering this glitchy utopia. His unashamed approach to fusing summer euphoria with Nintendo nostalgia could have been beyond kitsch, but he has infused enough flair, charm and ultimately skill to make sure 'Neverland' soars far above that. It shines far brighter than the second star to the right, and completely encompasses a world of its own.
