So basically, TYCHO began as the solo project of San-Franciscan producer, graphic designer and all-round creative connoisseur, Scott Hansen.
However for his second LP release through Ghostly International, he’s become accustomed to a newer sound, with a three-piece band creating essentially what you will hear on the new record, Awake (which by the way, is out on the 18th of March).
With the release of two singles, 'Montana' and 'Awake', it’s obvious that the tone of the album is somewhat different from past projects. With a keen eye for a strong percussive element, as well as this recurrence of humming guitars and smooth samples, this is somewhat more of an intensely atmospheric experiment in electronic music, than anything.
Spectre is this organic fusion of atmospheric guitar riffs, stunning synths and that ever-present percussive tone that definitely defines the contour of the sound. It’s actually really refreshing to hear such a blissful sound from a purely instrumental project, as it is rarely focused on anymore in music.
The addition and subtraction of multiple layers throughout the entirety, as well as the build and decline of the percussion, aids in defining this stunning piece of craft.
