I believe this is what they call a “banger” in the common vernacular. Melbourne-based producer Justin Erougian, known better as AIRWOLF, released this new Trumpdisco remix last week with the following warning: “Something a little different from my usual sound”... Yeah, just a bit.
The track is “all killer, no filler”, and fans of his dreamy, richly-layered sound will be surprised to note just how much he’s cut to the chase on this one, with none of his usual sweetly drawn-out build-up and a shit-tonne more bass to contend with. There are, of course, the usual late-Nineties and early-Naughties influences, but ultimately there’s something far more modern about this particular track, and the end result is a lot less “house” and definitively more “drum & bass”.
I’m going to speculate that other influences might include a sprinkle of WHAT SO NOT, maybe even a touch of DIPLO, but thankfully the track flaunts something very unique of AIRWOLF with it’s carefully constructed rise and fall.
