THEE OH SEES are my favourite band at the moment. They’re this fantastic psychedelic quintet from San Fran, playing really really odd experimental tunes and essentially ruling at everything they do. Their Australian tour, featuring Straight Arrows and The Gooch Palms (you want to see Gooch Palms video? No sweat, we got you covered) was the best gig I’ve been to all year, and that’s saying something (Aside: I go to a lot of gigs).
Since John Dwyer started mucking around with home recordings in 1997, this conduit for his eccentricities have released 13 albums- which works out to almost one per year. They’re a productive lot. If you find your interest piqued, pick up 2010’s Warm Slime because yes, I play favourites.
The track we’re dancing around to today is called ‘Lupine Dominus’ from forthcoming 14th record, Putrifiers II. The use of two drummers is part and parcel of this band’s raw and unique sound. Plus Dwyer and the girl on keys, Brigid Dawson have perfected harmonising. This track is fast, yet lyrics are mumbled, soft in the verses. They flow into an instrumental chorus full of squealing guitar and keys. Yes yes yes yes, this is just a genuinely great track.
We think it’s about time for some noise rock.
