Live Review: LISTEN: The XX ‘Chained’

The latest song from The XX features the creamy vocals of Oliver Sim and Romy Madley Croft that overlap in a sweet serenade.

The latest song from THE XX features the creamy vocals from Oliver Sim that overlap Romy Madley Croft in a sweet serenade that the band is so well known for.

Beats from Jamie Smith better known as Jamie XX are timid and minimal that quietly loop and create a deliciously tense atmosphere. A hint of organ can be heard through the synth as the vocals swell and yearn for closeness. The XX ask, “We used to get closer than this/ Is it something you miss?”. Fans certainly have missed the lullaby quality that this band seems to exude, but with the release of their new album ‘Coexist’ out in September, fans will soon be woken from their dazed slumber.

Ascending guitar trickles into a scale of sorts and provides the shy climax to the second single from The XX this year.

‘Chained’ is one of those songs that remind you exactly why you love The XX so much and why this band is still the best to throw onto your radio and go for a long night drive.
