Live Review: LISTEN: The Stevens 'Hindsight'

Chapter Music say that these guys are "the most exciting new band come across in the last couple of years". Say hello to The Stevens.

Chapter Music say that these guys are "the most exciting new band [they've] come across in the last couple of years" - and we're not one disagree. Say hello to THE STEVENS.

This young Melbourne scratchy pop act formed a couple of years ago around guitarist (and Twerps drummer) Alex Macfarlane and Travis MacDonald. They recently expanded to a full four-piece form with the additions of bassist Gus Lord (Boomgates) and drummer Matt Harkin. So you know that there is a wealth of talent within their ranks.

Earlier this year Chapter reissued their 2012 Self-Titled EP, a 13 minute (yep, 13 minute) explosion of insanely catchy and timeless songs that haunt the ears for much longer than its 6 track life. And now they're even more excited to announce The Stevens' debut album -  A History Of Hygiene.

We're told that the full length is a little bit different to the EP, with A History Of Hygiene being a tad longer. Make that 24 tracks, 44 minutes long. And using simple mathematics you can figure out that each track averages out at 2 minutes flat each. So they're not going to be straying too far from their roots, with impressionist whirlwinds of song fragments and frenetic anxiety-pop classics - sequenced perfectly to create a rushed world of noise.

We've got the first single from the album. 'Hindsight', streaming below - and it's definitely living up to their hype. With a serious lo-fi and garage influence, and some relaxed vocals - it manages to encompass both a melancholic and energetic vibe, whilst wrapping it all together with some beautifully crafted pop melodies.

Chapter Music will release the Stevens’ A History Of Hygiene on LP, CD and digital on November 1, 2013. Get excited!
