Aussie dude STEPHANE 1993 has made waves over this last year. Putting out music through the likes of Stoney Roads, and most recently Main Course, he’s been infectiously spreading the love, and we can’t get enough of it.
Recently putting out a new track titled ‘New Whip’, it’s roots lie so obviously in ghetto and hip hop, but once dipped in the genre pond, it emerges this cesspit of sounds that mash up to come out sounding something so dirty and gritty, it can only be heard loud and deep. It changes mood and atmosphere quite frequently throughout the track’s progression, which I think is what really defines the shining moments in this track.
It’s got bass. It’s got haunting keys. It’s got a killer percussive line. He’s formulated the track so carefully, and it’s honestly quite refreshing to hear. The vocals are later introduced, forcing a darker tone to the sound, and it is then that it changes from haunting electronica to a deep ghetto house infused with huge hip hop elements.
STEPHANE 1993 is destined for big things, which you can overtly hear in his sound alone. ‘New Whip’ is just a taste of what’s to come from the producer.
