Something For Kate are back to treat their fans to some sweet indie pop with this track 'Survival Expert.' Oh Paul Dempsey, never leave me.
Paul Dempsey and friends SOMETHING FOR KATE are out out with a new album pretty soon. It just makes sense, what with the confirmation from the band themselves, and the small fact that they're heading to Homebake in December (a birthday present for long-time fan, me, I hope so).
Yes, I've been pouring over these tracks since my primary school days. Listening to Echolalia a few times over, listening to Dempsey's solo work, asking my brother to learn the chords to my favourite song and to teach it to me on guitar. All that jazz that comes with being a young fan-girl who's drawn to those husky vocals and indie melodies.

This track 'Survival Expert' features the band's signature wordy lyrics and Dempsey crooning in the higher part of his range. Piano underscores the song which leaves no fan of their later work wanting. Fans of their earlier darker, rockier days may be a little disappointed but it's worth noting that they kept a strong hold of their roots in the bass line and lengthy chorus. Quiet and unassuming, Something For Kate remain one of our favourite Australian bands with a career dating back well into the '90s. It's a pretty little song that showcases their new direction.
Leave Your Soul to Science is out later this year.
