Live Review: LISTEN: SBMRGE 'Masked' EP

Another week, another stellar PILERATS family member drops an EP. "It's like if Shlohmo went on vacation to Hawaii with Jamie xx's sample bank of steel drums. Ya dig?"

Melbourne-based beatmaker and heartthrob, SBMRGE has unleashed a 3-track package chock full of emotional sentiment, all tied together sweetly with larger-than-life production.

Right from the get go, SBMRGE brings the heat with each and every track. Deeply contoured 808 sub bass plays with sizzling percussion and drum rhythms, whilst carefully crafted synths and samples lay delicate harmonies above one another.

SBMRGE's 'Masked' EP is effectively the dark, brooding answer to Australia's current popular tropico-beat sound, providing a fresh and clear series of sounds and ideals from what is otherwise a crowded space.
