Live Review: MIXTAPE: Ryan Hemsworth 'Downtown NYC Mix'

There really isn't anything Ryan Hemsworth can't do when producing. Whether it's his originals, remixes or mixtapes - you know you're in for a good time.

There really isn't anything RYAN HEMSWORTH can't do when it comes to producing. Whether it's his silky smooth originals, his ridiculous (also: mostly hilarious) remixes or in this instance, his mixtapes - you know you're in for a good time.

As people are finally beginning to catch onto this, he's slowly beginning to get some bookings that he deserves. One of those bookings is New York City's Downtown Festival - unsurprisingly it's curated by the local label, Downtown Records. The festival itself takes its stripes from fellow multi-venue festivals like SXSW, opting for more specific showcases staged across popular venues in NYC.

This year, along with Hemsworth, the lineup features performances from up and comers such as Palma Violets, DIIV, Beach Fossils and TEEN; whilst still bringing out some ol' faves - aka, Andrew Wyatt (Miike Snow), Purity Ring and Ducktails. As the Canadian is still considered a up and comer, he's providing the main support for Earl Sweatshirt and made the 'Downtown NYC Mix' to suit the occasion.

The mix is extremely hip-hop heavy, which isn't surprising when looking at the Showcase Lineup he's a part of. But if you are looking for that trap influence, bass heavy sound and smooth synths from his previous works, don't stress, it's all here in droves. As Hemsworth explains, the mix definitely represents what to expect from the his upcoming set...

"I usually go into mixes with an emotion or a season or a memory in mind. It was finally warm yesterday when I recorded this one, and I'm looking forward to Downtown Festival as my first ~summer festival~ of the year. Antwon and Earl Sweatshirt are super fun performers and I guess this is just a warm up for what to expect from myself at our show."

So sit back and enjoy almost 40 minutes of heavy hitting NYC Hip-Hop... and that perfect Backstreet Boys Bootleg from a couple of weeks back.
