Live Review: RIVAH opens up to love with new single 'Flood'

‘Flood’ is the newest single from Brisbane-based artist RIVAH, putting the metaphorical cherry on top of the sundae for what has been a monumental year for the artist. It’s a punchy, poppy track about letting love into your life and arrives fresh following RIVAH’s recent signing with booking agent Niche Productions. On the track itself, RIVAH explains that ‘Flood’ was written during a period when she was experiencing intense loneliness, saying that “Ultimately, ‘Flood’ is about me. And for every other person who’s felt alone in their life”.

The percussion features a mix of tribal and more electronic textures which lend a somewhat organic feel to ‘Flood’. It’s the kind of production that could serve as the soundtrack to any summer festival or played at a cabana bar surrounded by coconut cocktails. RIVAH's soul-filled and slightly warped vocals tie everything together and are the driving force of the song and melody. It’s funky and fun, but also conveys the heartfelt message of the need to open up to love, so basically your summer consolidated.

It’s the perfect end to the year for RIVAH, who over the past twelve months has played at Bigsound and sung with The Rubens, after being picked by triple j Unearthed as their opening act. The artist’s debut EP is just around the corner, a project including notable producers like Pip Norman (Jarryd James), Eric J (Chet Faker, Flume), JP Fung (Client Liaison) and Jesse Porches (Super Cruel). She has a couple more tour dates planned for this month too, so check them out below!
