Not much is known about London producer Prayer - his real name is a mystery, and his Facebook profile picture is nothing but a blurry, grainy black and white shot that obscures his face.
Then what is known about him? Well he's a classically trained pianist that studied music at university. He's got a fan with Zomby, with the producer debuting Prayer's music on his Cult Music label. But last year he broke away from the label, self-releasing his debut EP 'Knowing', which saw Prayer truly finding his own voice - a voice characterised by ambience, murky vocals and just a hint of Phillip Glass.
'Pluvia' is an exciting return for the producer, with the song chop and screwing soulful vocals alongside scrappy industrial soundscapes. The song is definitely on the darker side of things - with the music conveying a great deal of bleakness, isolation and ambient reflection.
I didn't know what 'Pluvia' was, so i looked it up. The latin word is the feminine form of 'pluvius', meaning rainwater or bringer of rain. It's a apt title, one that reflects to murky, convoluted nature of the song.
Prayer brings his classically trained abilities to the electronic producer game with ease and a touch of the avant-garde. 'Pluvia' isn't afraid to go beyond the confine of its genre, and by doing so, creates an utterly immersive, absorbing experience for its listener.
