DIRTY PROJECTORS new take on Phoenix's ‘Entertainment’ brings a chilled, fresh mood to the electro-rock original.
DIRTY PROJECTORS aren’t the first name that come to mind when you think of remixes but their new take on Phoenix’s ‘Entertainment’ brings a chilled, fresh mood to the electro-rock original.
The remix kicks off with warped vocals, stunted percussion and handclaps to keep it all together. The track follows a slower tempo, certainly less chipper than the original, which releases the inner sadness of the song: “I’d rather be alone.”
The vocals of Phoenix front man Thomas Mars remain the centrepiece and instead of chasing down the anthemic guitar riff, Dirty Projectors get creative with their signature tricky rhythms and subdued yelps.

It’s nothing shattering, but less bubbly and sounding a little more futuristic. The children’s choir from the original single seep in at the end to join in on the Projector backing vocals in a cascading finish. Phoenix never sounded so nonchalant. Phoenix have handed over their single to a few artists who put their own unique touch including Blood Orange, Hot Natured, Dinosaur Jr. and Grizzly Bear.
