Melbourne club producers and DJs PAZ and LEWIS CANCUT have just launched a new label called Dream Service, coming together through their appreciation of diverse rhythms and synthetic soundscapes. The label is set to be a hub for "new and otherworldly club sounds" and with this debut release, they've pretty much already nailed that.
PASMO/FUNKY FLESH is a brilliant joint effort from Paz and Lewis Cancut, with both artists drawing from a number of influences while keeping everything minimal and fresh. Dream Service Records is the duo's self confessed "over-groomed co-parented pet iguana," so this project is, like a pet, a bit unpredictable but ultimately loveable.
'Funky Flesh' is a tropical tinged experiment in harmony, as a family of synths dance around each other and pop in and out of focus. With that 8bit feel and canned drum samples, this track feels like it's equally inspired by a video game as it is by the Latin and African rhythms Paz so frequently references.
Named after a Japanese public transport card, Lewis Cancut's offering 'Pasmo' is a stripped back but upbeat electronic vibe. A sharp percussion line leads the intertwining bells, impressive DIY synths and blippy samples, keeping the beat as the melodies syncopate wildly.
With the launch of their reptilian baby label, we're looking forward to hearing more of these oddball club sounds, from the creators and beyond. The release is available for streaming, download and as a double A side 7" through their Bandcamp which may or may not go towards buying crickets for their lizard.
