Live Review: Pat Lok lays down the groove for a fresh Young Franco remix

Having returned in a blaze of glory earlier this year, it's been an exciting time for YOUNG FRANCO. Not only did he drop one of this year's hottest singles in 'About This Thing', featuring UK MC SCRUFIZZER, but he's also played a few killer shows around the country and beyond, including Splendour In The Grass and more recently the touring ALISON WONDERLAND SCAREHOUSE WAREHOUSE PROJECT. Now, not letting the year get away from him just yet, he's shared a couple of stellar remixes of his new single, and we can't get enough of the latest.

Tapping Canadian producer PAT LOK, who you may be familiar with as he's the sole Canadian artist on legendary French label Kitsune, for a brand new remix, this is a match made in heaven. Both artists have firm rooms in dance music, and both share a penchant for contagious, feel-good vibes, so you can probably guess that this remix is one that will have you moving in no time at all.

Lok picks up Franco’s main see-sawing beat and sharpens it, making it more synth-y and less bouncy. Lok then lays down a classic groove, throwing in some interesting embellishments like an old school house sample, deep voiced lyrics, and funky twangs. Where Scrufizzer raps, “I just come here to pop some,” the music is punctured by a popping clanging effect which complements the lyrics perfectly.

Lok's RnB influences are on display here, opting to move Young Franco's disco/house vibes into a chill, bouncy new world. Layers of new sounds and samples intertwine to make a remix that is heavy on the good vibes, coming right in time for summer. Perfectly suited for an afternoon, pool-side party this summer, this remix is an eclectic mix of sounds, one which adds a lot of spice to Young Franco’s classic beats.
