Ah France. This place where the sounds of piano accordions, the Moulin Rouge Soundtrack and some old school techno are all conjured in true, stereotypical Parisian fashion. But then the likes of NUDE turn up, and deliver a track like ‘Eyes’. Featuring fellow Frenchman PIERRE DANAË and if you are left with stereotypes, it’s only your closed mind allowing it.
The one stereotypically French thing about ‘Eyes’ is its romanticism. This is a pretty broad term though, but Nude is a freedom fighter. Hailing from a background ensconced by music, he clearly wants you to understand your own emotions and feelings, and to be unleashed by this understanding.
‘Eyes’ comes from his Faces EP. The inspiration seems to come from idea of being comfortable in the nude, seeing faces accurately for the first time through unhindered eyes, which is is yes, romantic, but also very liberating.
Pierre Danaë has a very sexy, deep voice. It too is romantic, in a mesmerising way. ‘Eyes’ is sensual. It’s mysterious and driven by electronic infused piano notes, combined with very soft guitar, and an array electronic percussion sounds. It has the undertone as though it is being played on an old record player, or an old failing piece of machinery. It could be a metaphor for failing vision as one ages, or blurred vision caused by emotions.
