Mirror Kisses is the project of Brookylnite George Clanton, and and like contemporaries Blood Orange, Kindess and Perfume Genius, finds Clanton delving into experimental retro pop whilst delivering heartfelt songwriting that hits the soul.
Clanton's Mirror Kisses at times feels like an undiscovered 80s band that feel through the cracks. An Echo and The Bunnymen rival that didn't quite make it. But the truth is, Mirror Kisses is 21st century dude delving into the past to make some simple yet enduringly touching tunes. Whilst 2013's full length 'Heartbeats', was a total emerson into eighties indie crooner-dom, Mirror Kisses' latest output, particularly new track 'Keep A Secret' strays into a new decade. Not the 21st century mind you, but rather 90s acid house and Screamdelica era Primal Scream.
The filmclip itself is ripe with 90s references, with the self-made video slicing clips from 1995 film Hackers alongside trippy footage of Clanton himself.
'Keep A Secret' is a swampy snyth driven escapade into 90s idioms that does not disappoint. A glistening, euphoric two minutes and 48 seconds that's over way too quickly.
