Cashmere Cat redefines the game for producers all over again, earning the respect of big name acts and helping to move electronic music into new territories
“Do you…like drugs? Yeah? Well, me too.” Oslo-based Norwegian bass-head Magnus August Høiberg is best known under his current stage name, CASHMERE CAT redefining the game for turntablists and remixers, earning the respect of big name acts like Diplo and helping to pioneer the increasingly popular trap movement.
His latest R’n’B to trap conversion is Miguel’s mildly successful, cheeky single Do You… (a song that wasn’t on our Top 10 Songs to Have Sex To, but easily could have been). It’s currently available for free download via Soundcloud. If you’re a fan of thoughtful, down tempo acts like Ryan Hemsworth, Rustie or Ta-Ku, give this one a try and, while you’re there, be sure to give his first EP, Mirror Maru a listen.
2013 has seen a series of achievements and nods of recognition for the twenty-five year old: he’s played SXSW and SNL; supported acts like Major Lazer and Flosstradamus; and was flown to Los Angeles by super-producer Benny Blanco where he collaborated on pieces for Maroon 5 and Jeremih.

As Cashmere Cat, Høiberg’s remixes have been recognised by producers and publications alike, with his edit of 2 Chainz’ No Lie ranked #1 by VIBE on a list of ‘25 Awesome Genre-Benders of 2012’. As DJ FINAL (an abandoned moniker), he represented his country as a finalist in the DMC World DJ Championships 2008.
His live show ain’t bad, either: Melbourne disco kings 96 Bulls named his SXSW show one of the best they’ve attended.
