The maturity of this new project shines through in the vocals which remain remarkably soulful amongst layers of harsher beats. Lyrically the title refers to a queer origin story, involving the legend of Captain Moonlite and James Nesbitt, criminals and lovers in the 19th Century colony of Victoria. Whale describes 'My Captain' as a hymn to the power of queer resistance.
Overall there is some serious talent from a serious mind on display here. Check it.
