JAMIE WOON has been quiet for a while, but proving the old adage “good things come to those who wait” he has released ‘Sharpness’ to build anticipation for an upcoming album due out later this year.
With a title like ‘Sharpness’ it's hard to know what to expect from the track. Woon’s voice is dreamy. Its strong on its own but you could be equally fulfilled listening to the A Capella version’. The track features a simple keyboard melody with an up close percussion line adding depth. Picture a keyboard crooner and finger clicking back up singers mixed with a little 90’s pop ballad.
Blurring the lines between electronica and pop the track progresses to a seedier side as a dark base line begins to take over. The percussion line continues, sounding a lot like rhythm sticks, stripping the whole track down until it fades out to the lyrics “let it go”. Jamie Woon manages to create something of mystery in the track.
‘Sharpness’, and Woon’s upcoming album, take on a new direction from his previous album Mirrorwriting. He still maintains the carefully crafted songwriting and underlying electronic influence but incorporates live percussion. This as yet untitled album is going to redefine the electronic-pop genre.
