Melbourne based duo HAARLO will be entering your radar if they haven’t already. Their second release ‘Love’s Gone’ is ambient but simple. It allows plenty of room for the soulful but raw vocals to give you all the feels.
Haarlo is kiwi born Stacey Gardiner, who is responsible for those sexy vocals, and Jonathan Steer, who has a pretty decent resume which includes working with Hiatus Kaiyote. Together they unite musically with the yearning to become ‘globetrotting musical gypsies, spreading the love’. Obviously with this particular track, the inspiration is a different kind of love. This one is more about confusion, and with the way the track moves alone, it is a little like a gentle emotional roller coaster.
‘Love’s Gone’ will probably hit a note for most. The song itself is hypnotising, king of like the crazy web of love, but you can ignore the lyrics themselves, and focus on the voice, gentle percussion and funky keyboard. It’s part jazz soul, and part electro-pop. as the track progresses the full range of Gardiner’s voice is shown, as it transforms in so many ways owning the track. ‘Love’s Gone’ is a hint of what is to come from Haarlo, and it will be well worth tuning into if it’s anything to go by.
