Live Review: Fractures ‘Won’t Win’ (Japanese Wallpaper Remix)

Melbourne producer JAPANESE WALLPAPER has taken on FRACTURES’ ‘Won’t Win’ and has somehow, made it more delicate than before.

Melbourne based electronic connoisseur FRACTURES has had a rough start. Being exposed to injuries that could have potentially altered the way he could even approach life made it almost impossible for him to create music for a period of time.

We spoke to him recently about the injury, but also about the incredible music he makes.

Tinkering with his guitar and playing with delicate tones on synths, he’s taken under his wing a knack for creating haunting melodies that are laced with dark tones. Utilising texturally thick layers that are carefully laid upon one another, he’s employed a rather organic sound for himself.

His track ‘Won’t Win’ follows suit with this ethos, and even builds towards the middle to escalate the atmosphere to the greatest heights. Layers are added carefully and effectively, but I feel that it’s the incredibly accomplished vocal prowess of FRACTURES that really heightens the sound. Another Melbourne based producer is the talented JAPANESE WALLPAPER. He’s taken on FRACTURES’ ‘Won’t Win’ and has somehow, made it more delicate than before.

Tinkling lullaby-like synths replace the sweeping build of FRACTURES’ version, but the quality of the vocals aids in keeping the same stunning quality that the original has. Haunting in its own respect, the electronic prowess displayed by JAPANESE WALLPAPER shows not restraint, but a willingness to adapt and somehow make simple tones sound so extravagant.

Like a starry night in the middle of winter, JAPANESE WALLPAPER’s take on FRACTURES’ ‘Won’t Win’ does so much justice to the original, and even so, makes it all the more beautiful.
