Live Review: Flight Facilities Triple J Mix-Up Exclusive: 2002-2012
One of the things I admire about FLIGHT FACILITIES is that they don’t saturate their sets with unnecessary remixes, which aren’t anywhere near as good as the originals
The final FLIGHT FACILITIES Triple J Decade Mix (2002-2012) is the perfect hour of music for anyone currently aged in their early 20s to mid 30s who have been festival and club addicts sometime over the past 10 years or so.
It allows us to reflect on some of the best times we’ve had in our lives involving the music we love, our friends (old and new) as well as particular tracks which have shaped who we are today.

It’s easy to see why FLIGHT FACILITIES dedicated this mix to AJAX, as I’m sure the majority of these songs were played by him at some point in his career. Below I’ve decided to share with you some of my favourite tracks from this mix and some of the memories I've got that relate to them.
RIOT IN BELGIUM – THE ACID NEVER LIES / LA MUSIQUE
These two tracks without a doubt remind me of some of my early clubbing and festival experiences. I remember playing 'La Musique' really loudly on a number of occasions, as friends were jumping and dancing around on my bed while screaming the words.
I can also recall seeing RIOT IN BELGIUM at a small boutique festival known as Round & Round (R.I.P) on the Gold Coast in 2006, where they played alongside THE PRESETS (before they became popular), THE VALENTINOS (before they changed their name to LOST VALENTINOS), I HEART HIROSHIMA, BANG GANG DJs, YVES KLEIN BLUE and many more. These were all quality times!
FEIST – MY MOON, MY MAN (BOYS NOIZE REMIX)
This will always be a killer remix in my books. One of the first times I think I heard it was when someone played it in the Slate Bender Bar (now called the Smirnoff Cocktail Bar) at Splendour In The Grass in 2007.
Even if I found the playing times for that year somewhere, I still probably couldn’t be sure who it was exactly but I’m confident it was either KATO (who's now in WORDLIFE), STARFUCKER DJs or DAN DE CAIRES.
THE WHITEST BOY ALIVE – GOLDEN CAGE (FRED FALKE REMIX)
This would have to be one of my favourite remixes of all time. I was holding out all day to hear this at Field Day in Sydney in 2010 and it was a truly magical finish to the day. FRED FALKE was playing on the smallest stage of the festival and 2MANYDJS had just finished playing on the main stage, which was situated nearby.
As his 'Golden Cage' remix began, streamers were let off from the stage and there seemed to be a fair few confused faces from the people leaving the venue. While FRED FALKE's small crowd were dancing crazily to the music, the onlookers were wondering what the big deal was. What a moment!
TODD TERJE – INSPECTOR NORSE
No matter how old this track gets, it'll always sound fresh. Every time 'Inspector Norse' gets played by a DJ, the room is filled with excitement and happiness. I can still picture the moment when the man himself (Terje) dropped it at Harbourlife in Sydney late last year. The song, the location, the people I was with at the time, all created what was probably my highlight of the festival. When all of the above are at their best, it turns into a memory no one could ever forget!
This FLIGHT FACILITIES mix proves to us all the power music has on our memories. Sometimes all it takes is to hear a song you listened to in the past to uncover some of the amazing moments you've enjoyed in your life.
