Live Review: Evar delivers his darkest track yet in 'Black N White'

Argentinian producer Evar's drops the intense 'Black N White' that blends tactile sampling, skittering percussion and all encompassing trap drops

Argentinian producer EVAR has just released an intense single through Sydney label, Sidechains. The label has been having quite a year, linking up with artists from all over the world for some exciting new releases while still championing left of centre club back in Australia. Evar's ability to craft dance tracks that manage to blend delicate, tactile sampling with all encompassing trap drops managed to catch the label's attention. This new single, 'Black N White', manages to distill his entire style into a 3 minute experience.

Skittering samples of sticks and bongos lay the foundation for this track, as the repeated plucks of the melody loop on top. As the track grows, the sub bass becomes more menacing and the layers of dark harmonies build the tension to something darker.

At the climax the layers give way to a syncopated drop, dense with industrial clashes and squeaks. The cacophony of piercing samples and huge thudding bass create an intense breakdown that then cuts to half time, thinning out to only a few layers of dominating percussion over a sweet melody.

Almost as quickly as the drop starts, it pulls away, this time undercutting the sweetness of the delicate flute line with a moody bass. Rising percussion and harsh synthesisers gear you up for another terrifying drop, complete with breathy chopped vocals and metallic samples.

Evar has cornered such a unique sound, melding tactile samples with dense crashes. Of his releases, this is his darkest track yet, pulling away from his brighter and more sparse production while still creating something that is both organic and synthesised.

‘Black N White’ is just a warm up for Evar, as his full EP titled, I Love You, is on the way for a release through Sidechains in mid October. Make sure you nab this new single and keep your eye out for more trappy tunes from Evar.
