'It’s Hard To Push Back The Fear': Jay Watson Steps Into The Light As GUM

Live Review: LISTEN: Du Tonc 'Island'

Du Tonc have released their brand new Summery single 'Island' via their very own label Nightfilm.

Matt Van Schie and Mighty Mouse are the super-duo that make up DU TONC. Since the release of their first mixtape last month, the boys have just dropped their new single 'Island'.

Upon listening, you'll notice that the title of the track wasn't chosen as a random, irrelevant word. Falling within the large pool of important-songs-to-listen-to-on-repeat-this-Summer, there's something quite light about the instrumentation of 'Island'. Though if you inspect more carefully, there seems to be quite a lot happening beneath the tracks lyricism, it's just that each layer has been rolled out paper-thin to give the illusion that there's actually more going on than what you think.

With this comes a slight melancholic vibe in the way that some of the samples used come across quite cooler than their fruity synth siblings, not to mention the overall pace of 'Island'. However, this is counteracted with the hopeful lyricism employed. These lyrics are obviously placed on a pedestal, as they not only arrange a Summery story, they also lead and finish the song.

Du Tonc's 'Island' was released through their own label Nightfilm, and can be purchased on iTunes HERE.
