We've heard a fair few great tracks from DISCIPLES recently but their new one that samples the beautiful vocals of MARVIN GAYE definitely takes the cake.
'Mercy' is the soulful track we've been waiting for from these guys who already know how to blend smooth jazz melodies with funky rhythms and electronic samples. The London-based trio have got a lot to offer and if you haven't heard them yet, this is a wonderful introduction.
They've caught the eyes of ASTRONOMAR and KILTER, two producers who thought that with a little tweaking, they could bring the trios songs onto the club scene with ease. Luckily they were both totally right! 'Mercy' is probably the best original the boys have released yet. With smooth melodies and sultry samples, DISCIPLES have created themselves a great modern jazz track fit for everyone's ears.
When you hear MARVIN GAYE's vocals singing "oh yeah," across 'Mercy' you quickly get a sense of what kind of track this is going to be. The melody makes use of quiet synths that imitate trumpets giving the track a jazz vibe early on. The vocal track keeps quiet and as everything calms down, an instrumental chorus soon picks everything right back up again. Hand claps and deep synths lightly dance across the vocal mix and just create a very relaxed atmosphere that 'Mercy' seems to thrive on.
