I’m not sure if 'The Yabba' satisfies my needs, or if it just makes me want to hear more Battles.

Welcome to only the second article that I’ve ever written for the Purple Sneakers blog - the last one was Sable’s debut release in 2013. I’m definitely no writer, just a music fan, so please bear that in mind when reading the following professionally written piece of journalistic gold…

If you are anything like me, then you’ve been waiting for the next BATTLES release for quite literally years. Battles clearly take the quality over quantity approach (much like me with my pursuit of music journalism, jks). Their last full length release, Gloss Drop, was released in 2011, whilst their debut LP, Mirrored, came out in 2007 (when it was in my top three releases of that year).

Those whose memories stretch that far might remember that Mirrored was accompanied by standout single ‘Atlas’. And the trainspotters out there might even remember the DJ Koze remix which came out on pre-Flume Future Classic in 2007.

Their forthcoming LP, La Di Da Di, is due to be released next month via that house of all things avant-garde, Warp Records, and if first single ‘The Yabba’ is a sign of things to come then fans will definitely not be disappointed. Coming on like a modern day Emerson Lake And Palmer instrumental, I’m not sure if 'The Yabba' satisfies my needs, or if it just makes me want to hear more Battles.

Either way it's gonna be a long month until the album drops. So here are a bunch of Battles' previously released works to get you through the 31 days between now and then…

La Di Da Di is out September 18 via Warp Records/Inertia Records.
