Live Review: Alfie Templeman beams with positive energy in his new single 'Shady'

Taking the music scene by storm with a prolific run in 2020 so far, rising indie-pop star Alfie Templeman is back with another new single 'Shady', that sees the star say goodbye to past negativity as he enjoys present-day glory. Following on from the success of his 2020 EP Happiness In Liquid Form, that showed his versatility and ability to produce anthemic bops, and most recently his glimmering 'Forever Isn't Long Enough' single, Alfie is proving he is a superstar in the making.

Framed by Templeman's signature funk-laden guitars, 'Shady' is imbued with a strong burst of indie-pop energy that drives much of the track. Casting us into a groove infused landscape, elements of retro become a central focus with twangy electronic elements adding a touch of quirk that defines much of his music. With bright sonic disco features, riffing guitars, bouncing beats, and deep bass, we begin to recognise Alfie's individualised eclectic sound. As his stellar vocals take centre stage, 'Shady' becomes an addictive listen with his passionate voice creating a positive feel. Bouncing along to this high spirited banger, worries from the past start to dissipate as we wave goodbye to shady people and dark times. With Templeman's funky bop now in our ears, good vibes are all that remain.

The prodigious young musician, songwriter, and producer spoke about the meaning behind 'Shady' saying, “It’s about trying to stay true to myself, doing what I wanna do in my life and trying to avoid all the arguments and shady people that come with it. No more negativity, more making sense of the past and enjoying what the present has to offer.”

'Shady' was produced by none other than Jungle’s Tom McFarland, with the musician reflecting on his collaboration with Alfie saying, “Working with Alfie on this track was really fun. We started collaborating together on ‘Shady’ as lock-down hit the UK so everything was very uncertain and weird but making music always helps you through those times. He’s a great kid with undeniable talent and I think this song really shows the world where he is heading artistically."

'Shady' also comes with an accompanying 'Karaoke Version' video that gives listeners a visual escape as bold lyrics appear in front of a beautiful landscape that is brimming with positivity.

Surpassing 50 million cumulative streams across his strong discography, attracting praise from critics and music lovers worldwide, Templeman is crafting a bright future with his alternative touch on music. Serving as a bold addition to his growing collection of music, 'Shady' is the perfect tune to thrust you out of the blues and into present-day happiness.
