"This is two musicians still finding themselves and there's plenty of evidence of good things to come."
'Neo-soul' is only half the story with New York-based R&B act Lion Babe.
The duo, comprising singer Jillian Hervey — daughter of model and actress Vanessa Williams — and producer Lucas Goodman, fuse electronic drum beats with an otherwise organic production, topped by Hervey's smooth vocals, which, while short on range, are nonetheless very strong. Despite interesting production early on, the songs begin to blend in with one another, especially on the album's latter half. Only the unsuccessful pop move of On The Rocks and the moody closer Little Dreamer stand out that much in terms of style. But this is two musicians still finding themselves and there's plenty of evidence of good things to come.
