Laura Davis: Look Out, It's a Trap!

The premise for Laura Davis' show is to forewarn her audience of the hidden traps in life. While the examples of the body (or “meat prison”), relationships, jobs and even life itself are standard fare for comedy, Davis' candid use of her own strange life stories seemingly breathe new life into these topics. Each anecdote is punctuated by an exasperated “it's fucked” and a return to a special concoction that keeps her saliva levels at comedian levels. She is self-depreciating throughout much of the show, sometime brutally so, but she is also well aware of her adorability – proudly displaying her various idiosyncrasies and “Disney eyes”. The show doesn't always flow easily and at times there are gaps between the big laughs but this doesn't affect enjoyment levels as Davis' flawed-but-personable delivery seems perfect for the room and her audience (something she manages to convey in homemade-chart form).
