"Spectral harmonies, delicate percussion and sounds captured through an open window all dovetail together in arrangements that shine."
Despite relying on a familiar toolbox, 27-year-old Laucan (aka Laurence Galpin) has put together a handsome hi-def folk release that suggests there's a lot more to his new endeavour than he's allowing himself to reveal.
Spectral harmonies, delicate percussion and sounds captured through an open window all dovetail together in arrangements that shine. Galpin has evidently listened carefully and closely to Radiohead, Nick Drake and Fleet Foxes, and while he pays tribute in fine fashion, he never really finds his own voice, resulting in an album that sits somewhere in the middle of the pack, not leading it.
