The band departed quickly but the buzz in the air after such an epic ending was rife and all who were there would surely be considering themselves lucky to have experienced such a wonderful show.
Locals Pat Chow turned a lax room into an explosive area with a very loud but very enjoyable performance. Elements of hardcore and catchy rock hooks made up their show, and they seem to be heading in a great direction with their new track being one of the most enjoyable tracks of the night. Mt Mountain were next to grace the stage and they managed to change the tempo completely with their heavy psychedelic sound that seemed to have a larger focus on intricate melodies and drawn-out instrumental pieces, with some songs becoming reminiscent of Tool intros. They were a hit with the crowd, who only seemed to build as the band's set continued. They deserve plenty of praise for the enjoyable show.
The Silents were the main support and took to the stage in front of a quickly growing audience. The band have only recently reunited after two years off stage and wooed the crowd with the same sluggish nonchalance they've always been known for. They may not have been the most intriguing group of the night but they put on an enjoyable show, and set the scene perfectly for the hugely anticipated headlining band.
Each member of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard casually made their way up on stage at separate intervals, and with a quick 'hello' through the heavily reverbed microphone, the seven-piece launched into their set, leading to people people losing their shit in seconds. While the night never quite descended to crowdsurfing and human fountains, the audience were having a ball and seemed to thoroughly enjoy a lot of the band's new material. The vocals were unfortunately far too low in the mix so it was difficult to suss out the minimal banter between songs or any of the lyrics within them, but the energy that each member of the group possessed could not be matched by many. The highlight of the evening came with the last song Head On/Pill, a 16-minute outro which, when you took a second to stand back and admire the spectacle of dancing bodies, was an insanely unique and enjoyable musical experience. The band departed quickly but the buzz in the air after such an epic ending was rife and all who were there would surely be considering themselves lucky to have experienced such a wonderful show.
