Album Review: Kid Wave - Wonderlust

23 June 2015 | 4:39 pm | Guido Farnell

"Revisiting retro indie-rock with an accent on shoegaze and dream-pop, they bathe us in gloriously fuzzed guitar and lush four-part harmonies."

This London-based four-piece make their impressive debut with Wonderlust.

Revisiting retro indie-rock with an accent on shoegaze and dream-pop, they bathe us in gloriously fuzzed guitar and lush four-part harmonies. Frontwoman Lea Emmery’s breathy vocals maintain a cool aloofness, while Serra Petale’s big crashing drums maintain a brisk pace inspiring Matthias Bhatt to drop some really big riffs. Kid Wave’s dreamy pop manoeuvres feel like one of Sarah Records’ acts falling under the influence of acts like Breeders and Stone Roses, finding themselves in the same sphere as contemporaries like Foxygen.
