Album Review: Kid Ink - My Own Lane

More Than A King hints at a talents Ink doesn’t share elsewhere. It’s the only time he seems genuinely engaged throughout the record. That’s nowhere near enough.

More Kid Ink More Kid Ink

Disorienting, dispiriting and very long, My Own Lane is less a collection of rap songs than an endurance event. Opener Hello World is a useful Chiddy Bang impression: immediate, catchy, soulless. Main Chick is as saccharine sweet as a song containing the line, “Fuck whoever you came with” can be. Tattoo Of My Name is a solid example of the Weezy-influenced sing-song we lost interest in five years ago. More Than A King hints at a talents Ink doesn't share elsewhere. It's the only time he seems genuinely engaged throughout the record. That's nowhere near enough.
