Jorge Elbrecht & Ariel Pink are responsible for the wondrous slice of bedroom rock ‘Called To Ring’, the pair working together as 'Jorge Elbrose'.

Mexican Summer have just released a neat little booklet, jeez I’m making this thing sound pocket-sized. Okay it’s more of a coffee table book and the best part about it is...

It comes with a 10” compilation that has some great names on it: SPIRITUALIZED & NEIL HAGERTY, AUTRE NE VEUT & FENNESZ, plus members of TOTAL CONTROL, LACE CURTAIN & ASHTRAE FAX.

Though it’s Jorge Elbrecht & Ariel Pink who are responsible for this wondrous bit of fluid bedroom rock, ‘Called To Ring’. Coming together under the alias Jorge Elbrose (Pink’s last name is actually Rosenberg) have created a glorious sonic snapshot of sun drenched seas that is highly reminiscent of Microcastle / Cryptograms era Deerhunter.

Personally I get pretty bored of this indie rock thing pretty quick but there is something about the syzygy of fuzzy guitars and layered dreamy vocals that float above gooey resonant feedback conjuring the halcyon days of yesteryear.

The production is pretty swell too, the juxtaposition of space intimacy is near perfection - the reverb on the drums seems a little unnecessary though they were probably just trying to lull us into a dream (within the first four bars they’d done exactly that! The scuzzy guitar 3:06 is just delightful too!!).

It’s one of those melodies you’ll be whistling all summer long.

Available now at Mexican Summer.
