"There are plenty of easy-ridin’ allusions to the open road, but Cry Of Love was more of a cul de sac."

More Jimi Hendrix More Jimi Hendrix

Was Jimi Hendrix running out of ideas? Released less than a year after his death, Hendrix’s first official posthumous album was a big seller, but it in no way matched the spontaneously orgasmic Experience milestones.

As an innovator whose vision shaped 20th Century music, it’s saddening to hear this regression into barstool rawk. An avalanche of ‘60s clichés, Cry Of Love could’ve been written by Austin Powers. There are plenty of easy-ridin’ allusions to the open road, but Cry Of Love was more of a cul de sac.
