Finnish death metallers Insomnium back up 2011's melodic beast One For Sorrow with sixth album Shadows Of The Dying Sun. The four-piece unleash a light (for them) array of lines reined in by chugs and double kicks in opener The Primeval Dark. From then on it's business as usual, with stacks of cascading guitars in While We Sleep, and vocalist Niilo Sevänen's growl amid tight-wound rhythmic riffs on Black Heart Rebellion. The thing that keeps Insomnium in the upper echelon of Finn metal is their sensibility and skill for melody, which is here in force.
