"It's heavy, ethereal and crushing, all in the best possible way."
Don't be fooled by the sunny title, the latest works from Melbourne's Hello Satellites, Bright Face, is probably anything but bright — and there's nothing wrong with that.
It's heavy, ethereal and crushing, all in the best possible way. Starting with the almost spooky Woke Up With The Feeling and moving onto the vocally driven Incantation, Bright Face begins with a haunting force.
It's not until Sometimes It's Simple/Bright Face that you begin to hear some warmth and softness in both the vocals and lyrics. The harmonies are beautiful and unchallenged, and it's hard to find a flaw in them. Moving forward, Blindness and Are You Here Because You Fell seem to be just the right blend of the warm and cool aspects brought on by earlier tracks.
Press on and you'll be rewarded with Hello Lover and an opportunity to get your feet tapping, despite the slightly confusing 'Hello lover/Hello monster' lyrics and feel. If you're looking for something easy for a Sunday morning, this is it; we're sure you'll even have the local wildlife hovering around your head, enchanted Cinderella-style by the soundtrack.
