Grinspoon ProfileNostalgia is a funny thing. Many people leave their music taste behind when they hit 25, or thereabouts. Many people say 'music just isn't as good as it was in my day'. There are people listening to this album who will think rock music has declined since the era in which this album was released.
Firstly, this album is hailed as an all-time Aussie rock classic and very much deservedly so. In its day, it was an absolute ball-tearer.
However, 20 years down the track it sounds dated. It sounds primitive. Not just the production, but the songwriting style. It sounds like '80s punk music with (albeit enormous) '90s metal guitars.
For those who did leave their music taste back in the '90s, there is plenty to like here. Plenty meaning almost 50 tracks and two-and-a-half hours worth of music, including all 16 tracks from the original album and a multitudinous array of ultra-raw live tracks and b-sides, rarities and remixes.
This re-issue truly lives up to the term "Deluxe". It's a veritable smorgasbord on a 'spoon.
