Album Review: Goo Goo Dolls - Boxes

StarHalf Star

"The band has produced a boring album that will make listeners snooze."

American rockers Goo Goo Dolls have ditched the modern rock and replaced it with a pop sound.

Vocally John Rzeznik at times sounded like a cheap knock-off of Jon Bon Jovi, where previously songs like Here Is Gone and Keep The Car Running were emotionally driven. Opener Over and Over is positive and promising, but from there the album feels like it hit the repeat button.

With drummer Mike Malinin now out, the band has worked with other collaborators and produced a boring album that will make listeners snooze. They have either reached a musical midlife crisis or just had some bad luck.
