Dunes’ lowkey approach surprises as it hits joyous feelgood notes.

Gardens & Villa's second album Dunes offer dreamy, synth-heavy indie pop that's accompanied by hyperactive percussion and beats. Produced by the DFA's Tim Goldsworthy, this album focuses more on groove and (white boy) funk than their first. The Californian outfit create light and breezy vibes over which Chris Lynch's calming and somewhat feminine falsetto projects an introspective and wistful presence. Like much of this album, the lead single Bullet Train blends the quirkiness of '80s electro pop with more traditional songwriting to interesting effect. Dunes' lowkey approach surprises as it hits joyous feelgood notes.
