The Explorers Club is the story of two expeditions to Antarctica told mostly through narration and at times, elegantly and humorously through song. The performers are talented and captivating when performing the original songs; the stories are cleverly told. Images of the engrossing hardship of the expedition are conjured by the evocative set pieces, which at times brings to mind the whimsy of Simon & Garfunkel.
A strong visual backdrop helps further engross the viewers, who are plunged into the explorer’s plight. The use of photographs projected on a screen behind the performers sets the scene and provides a subtext of the explorer’s struggles that are further articulated through the songs being sung.
