Live Review: BIGSOUND Live: Eves

11 September 2014 | 9:49 pm | Mitch Knox

A strength of voice, presence and performance that far outpaces her relatively young age

Diminutive hometown upstart Eves, known to her mum as Hannah Karydas, is fronting a full house at Oh Hello! tonight.

But the sheer heaving mass in front of her seems to do little to sway her seemingly boundless confidence, as the demure songstress immediately shows a strength of voice, presence and performance that far outpaces her relatively young age. Indeed, it's clear through watching her that, despite the clamouring industry attention that has begun to swirl around her ankles of late, Eves is a level-headed kind of performer, constantly learning new things about her craft, as her increasingly assured public performances continue to demonstrate.

Scintillating cut Electrical is a highlight in a half-hour-long string of high-quality offerings, with her nerves only ever peeking through a couple of times at worst in some less-than-concrete high notes, but shit - she did everything else so very, very right that it honestly feels a little unfair to even bring it up. Highly worthy stuff.
