"It's an essential look at some of the music that introduced the world to the futuristic sounds of the 808."

To some, electro was just a passing trend, a fad that quickly became outdated.

But this neglects the fact that dance music is always changing, and no less an album than Straight Outta Compton paid homage to electro, with its closing track, the appropriately titled Something 2 Dance 2. Egyptian Lover (born Greg Broussard and having reinvented himself in the vein of Sun Ra) was a pioneer of the style. At 22 tracks, this particular compilation probably isn't for the casual fan. For hip hop heads, it's an essential look at some of the music that introduced the world to the futuristic sounds of the 808.
