Album Review: Delia Gonzalez - In Remembrance

"A touch romantic, in a maudlin kind of way."

After a five-year break, Gonzalez returns with some solo piano pieces closely modelled on music she wrote for four 16mm ballet films first shown in Naples in 2010.

A touch romantic, in a maudlin kind of way, the sound is obviously acoustic, but the form of each piece is similar to the kosmische electronic oscillations of her projects with Gavin Russom, which used to cause time to evaporate. Weirdly, time seems to drag and crawl here. Some seasickness-inducing remixes from Bryce Hackford round off this underwhelming comeback.
