The debut album from Communions, Blue, is a solid starter; polished, with just enough of their own musical influences poking through.
It's technically clever, with the Danish four-piece sounding like they've spent many a cold day inside honing their crafts. It's an easy comparison to Tie Up My Hands-era British India, and there are a lot of Cure-like piano undertones paired with soaring guitar overlays. While the sound is developed and mature, the age of the group is apparent through some of their more longing and angsty lyrics, especially in songs like Come On, I'm Waiting and Got To Be Free.
Overall, Blue is punchy, catchy and uplifting, and brings a finesse that a lot of bands are still searching for on their third record.
