Album Review: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Only Run

StarStar

The lack of a band can certainly be heard.

More Clap Your Hands Say Yeah Clap Your Hands Say Yeah Profile

Philadelphia five-piece Clap Your Hands Say Yeah have been whittled down to a single member for their latest release Only Run – and the lack of a band can certainly be heard. No amount of synth overdubbing or smooth crooning by Matt Berninger (The National) can fill out the sonic space once occupied by bombastic bass lines and pumped up drum fills. Single Coming Down brings the hustle back briefly, but it's an all-too-quick burn in a lukewarm pot as the album simmers down to floaty, ambient vocals and overly-grandiose electronic triggers.
