Barkaa - Groovy
We've been sleeping on Malyangapa/Barkindji artist Barkaa, but thanks to her new single 'Groovy', that's absolutely changed. This one dropped at the end of December 2020, but came across our radar this week so it definitely had to be included thanks to its powerful message and just how fun it is to listen to. Out via Bad Apples, 'Groovy' is also dedicated to Barkaa's mother and sees Barkaa rap in both English and Barkindji. She's one to watch, and we are now firmly on board!

Bicep - Sundial
Bicep's eagerly anticipated new album, Atlas, is set for release January 22, but before that date arrives the pioneering duo have gifted us yet another single to make sure we are well and truly on the edge of our seats come release day. Titled 'Sundial', this is the fourth single from Atlas, and is yet another immaculate slice of the forward thinking and innovative dance music we know and love from them. Featuring a sample from ‘Jab Andhera Hota Hai’ (taken from the 1973 Bollywood film Raja Rani, recorded by Asha Bhosle & Bhupinder Singh, and written by Anand Bakshi and R. D. Burman), 'Sundial' is all we needed to know Bicep's Atlas is going to be a real moment next week.
Logic1000 - Medium
Following previous hits "Perfume”, “Blossom” and lead EP single “I Won't Forget”, Sydney born, Berlin based producer Logic1000 (aka Samantha Poulter) returns with one more single ahead of the release of her new EP, You've Got The Whole Night To Go, out January 22nd. Titled 'Medium', this latest single is groove-driven and club-ready with its pulsating beats and catchy melodies, and yet again positions Poulter as a serious rising force.
James Pepper - Triple Take
Gallery Records' first ever release was care of James Pepper, so it's fitting he'd commence proceedings again for them in 2021. We're expecting big things from both Pepper and Gallery this year, and 'Triple Take' shows they're both off to a very fine start indeed.
FRITZ - Die Happily
Novocastrian FRITZ has kicked off 2021 with a whole bunch of good news: she's released a new single, and has confirmed her second album is on the way. Titled Pastel, her new single 'Die Happily' paints an exciting picture of what's to come and is a gorgeous dedication of the everlasting platonic relationships in our lives which make our existence much better indeed.
Baby Queen - Raw Thoughts
Baby Queen is a name you best get acquainted with ASAP. Having had a breakthrough year in 2020, the South African-born, London-based rising star is going all in in 2021 and kicks things of in style with 'Raw Thoughts'. It's anthemic, relatable, emotional, punchy and more, and is the right kind of authentic pop we love so much. It's all systems go for Baby Queen!
Cat & Calmell - dramatic
Emerging Sydney-based duo Cat & Calmell follow up their debut single last year, 'dumbshit', with another pop gem in 'dramatic'. In their own words, the rising pair said, "We wrote this song as a way to express our frustration at the people in power and their complacency with the state of the world, it's a cry of frustration from our generation to theirs," and thanks to its catchy riffs, sassy hooks and punchy lyrics, we think the message is definitely going to get through!
Ross From Friends - Burner
Felix Clary Weatherall, aka Ross From Friends, has commenced 2021 in style with the launch of a new label and the release of a new single. Titled 'Burner', the single is out via the newly minted Scarlet Tiger, and with global distribution via LG105 / Caroline International, Weatherall's label will have an intimate approach to its offerings. 'Burner' is a formidable first impression, with a steadily growing euphoria embedded into its melody and with plenty of that UK dance energy we've come to expect from Ross From Friends. We can't wait to see what he does next!
SOPHIE x Autechre - BIPP Mx
According to Magnetic Mag, this remix has been six years in the making. SOPHIE had a strict no remix policy, unless it was by Autechre. The duo got busy, as you do, and couldn't fulfill the request back in 2015. Fast forward to 2018 and the same happened, but now in 2021, we finally have the remix to dive into and it is definitely worth it. A genius reconstruction of one of SOPHIE's most loved singles, it's slowed down, stripped back and rebuilt in all its new glory. We can't get enough.
