The usual sashays into samba and dancehall
Longevity in the faceless, ever shape-shifting world of dance music is hard to come by for most, yet the English duo have maintained their relevance by simultaneously straddling genres, breaking ground and appealing to a broad spectrum – no easy feat – and Junto, their seventh album and first in five years, is a brilliant comeback. Taking in Jaxx-brand sparkling soulful and disco-flecked house, the usual sashays into samba and dancehall, and even genre-throttling experiments in hip hop/drum’n’bass fusion, they’ve in many ways returned to their roots, creating what should be the dance album of spring and, hopefully, summer.
