"At the top of their game with 'This Is Our Show'."
Quantity over quality is a dreaded term when it comes to comedy. The notion that a subpar joke is bandaged by more jokes instead of a generous editing process makes for a truly excruciating experience. However, when it can magically straddle both quantity and quality, a show goes from enjoyable to truly great. Thankfully, Annie and Lena comfortably settle themselves into the latter.
The duo of Annie Lumsden and Lena Moon - a Melbourne-based pair with combined skills in standup, sketch, improv, acting, music and much more - are at the top of their game with This Is Our Show.
For their hour on-stage, their quips and punchlines are mile-a-minute and unrelenting - to the point where it becomes hilariously difficult to tell where one skit ends and another begins. One minute the pair are imitating monstrous Sirens of the sea, the next they’re singing tribute to the all-too-often fallen pets of rural households. The transitions, even when pointed out by the duo themselves, are faultlessly slick and make the show run sensationally smoothly. It is without question that the comedic couple are dedicated maestros of the craft.
This Is Our Show is a true barrage of sketch humour - a freight train of comedy that barrels full speed at its audience with no intention of slowing down. Lumsden and Moon expertly blur the lines between sketch and improv, leading their audience to constantly question what’s planned and what’s off the cuff. There is so much going on in the show that on the rare occasion that something doesn’t quite land, it’s long gone before anyone would even realise.
A truly jam-packed show that screams for repeat viewings - just so punters are certain they got every whip-fast gag.
